Newsletter April 1st

Dear 4B Parents,

Thank you for turning in your report card envelopes with the completed  SLE/PBIS  reflections by this Wednesday. We will be analyzing the data this week during our faculty meeting.  Mrs. Farmer will be sending home new copies on Monday to those students that have not yet turned theirs in as a reminder.  Thank you!

Lenten Outreach

Last week both 4th grade classes had a lovely visit from Ellen McGovern to talk about the work of St. Vincent de Paul.  The 4th grade is making the Holy Rosary St. Vincent de Paul branch the focus of both our Lenten outreach and our upcoming bake sale profits.  Currently, St. Vincent de Paul is having a food drive.  It would be wonderful if every student would bring in some non perishable items to support the drive.  This would be a new addition to our Lenten outreach.

Overview of Lenten Outreach Opportunities:

  • Rice Bowl collections.
  • St. Martin de Porres Friday lunches.  Last week’s collection was one of the largest in recent memory.  Thank you so much for your support.  This Friday, April 5th, we are only collecting lunches.
  • Lunches of Love (different from St. Martin de Porres lunches).  4th grade students are asked to bring in at least one Lunch of Love between April 8th and 19th.  This Friday all students will bring home a decorated brown bag as a reminder of this service project.  At school we will be creating special notes of encouragement to include in the bags.  Each students will bring home a list of suggested items to include in the lunches.  The list can also be accessed here.  Thank you for your support!

ZZ78086193Last Friday the students should have all brought home their Flat Stanley journals and flat people. We completed the first entry at school. Please be sure to look over the directions for the project if you have not done so already. There are specific expectations for the entries—quality work is expected.  Students should write rough drafts on separate paper so that their final draft in the journal shows quality work, creative word choice and a real effort to produce their highest quality writing.

Mark your calendars! The annual 4th grade charity Bake Sale will be taking place on Thursday May 16th.   This is a date change as there was a conflict with the first date. Each family will be asked to bring in some delicious baked goods for the sale. We will also be in need of parent volunteers to price and set up, clean up and assist the students during the sale. Look for more information as we get closer to the day.

Spelling: Study sheets for Unit 22 were sent home last Friday. This test will be this Friday as usual.

ZZ627C2201Reading: This week we will begin a fun mystery/adventure novel—a classic you may have read—called From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. It is a wonderful combination of adventure, mystery and relationships. It contains rich vocabulary and endearing characters.

Math: Homework will be light for one more week as we finish up the Oral Biographies.  Students may have some light math homework to complete if not completed in class. We will be focusing on fractions, simplest form, ordering/comparing, mixed numbers and improper fractions.

Happy First Week of April
