Newsletter December 11th

Dear 4B Parents,

Happy second week of Advent. I hope you all had a nice weekend. We have a busy week ahead!

This Tuesday the 4B students will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation with Fr. Oakland. We reviewed the steps of the sacrament and the examination of conscience on Monday in class.  You will find an examination of conscience and the steps for receiving reconciliation in your child’s filer to help him or her prepare. Thank you for taking time to remind/assist your child in his or her preparations for this special sacrament.  Students can write down notes on the direction sheet to bring with them into the confessional if they would like. Students should continue to practice the Act of Contrition. While they can use their sheet to pray during the service, all students are expected to be able to recite the Act of Contrition from memory. Thank you for helping your child with memorizing this prayer.

Outreach: This Wednesday, at mass, we will bless all the items the students have been bringing in as part of our Advent Outreach  We still have lots of room in our bins for food for the food bank and donations for our toy/coat drive. Thank you so much for your generosity. All donations need to be to school by this Wednesday the 13th.

  • Toys, art supplies and new coats for the children of migrant farm workers
  • Monetary donations for Uganda
  • Non-perishable food donations for St. Vincent de Paul

This Thursday the 14th is the big Christmas Program. Students should come dressed in their “Sunday best”—holiday wear.  All students should have their songs memorized for the program. Copies of the songs are in your child’s filer and you can access them online: What Star is This?  here and Point of Grace-One King hereThank you for practicing with your child as needed.

untitledStudents should come up to the classroom Thursday night no later than 6:15. Please do not send your children into the school before 6:00 as there is no supervision until 6:00. If you come earlier to get a seat, please keep your children with you until 6:00. Thank you!

Prayer Partners: Hopefully, all students are finishing up their handmade cards for their Faith Family prayer partners. All cards should be brought to school no later than this Friday the 15th. We will exchange them at our Faith Family meeting next week.  Make sure the cards are neatly and thoughtfully completed and nicely decorated.  Thank you.

Reading:  The Charlotte’s Web Quote Posters are due this Thursday the 14th.  The students also have a yellow study sheet for the Charlotte’s Web vocabulary test on Tuesday, in their filer.  This was passed out last week.  We have spent a good amount of time practicing at school so they should know the words pretty well.  The test is matching.

Math: We are wrapping up our chapter.  The test will be on Tuesday, and the practice test came home on Thursday for homework. Please check your child’s filer for the review we did in class on Thursday.

Science: Last week the students interacted with different forms of light energy. They looked at how light is refracted, reflected and absorbed. They also saw white light separate into colors with prisms. This week we are continuing to look at different types of energy. We will be discussing sound energy. We will look at the different ways sound waves move and travel. We also will be looking at vibrations and how they help us hear.

Social Studies:  The SE State test will take place next Monday the 18th.  If you will not be here next week students will need to take the test on Friday. Please let me know. Our class work is focusing on the early sea explorers, then we will move on to Lewis and Clark!

Spelling: Lesson 12 -ed and -ing endings this week. The test is Friday.

Corrected Papers: Please check your child’s filer throughout the week for corrected papers and please help your child keep the filers cleaned out.  Thank you!
