Dear 4B Families,
Happy second week of Advent. I hope you all had a nice weekend. Report cards will be coming home this Friday. I am asking the students to wait to open their report cards until they are with their parents. Please sign and return the empty envelope before Wednesday, December 18th. Thank you! It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Outreach: All the students are asked to bring in a dollar (or more!) for Uganda in December. Next Wednesday, December 18th at Mass we will bless all the items and organizations that the school has been collecting for during our Advent Outreach. Thank you all so much for your generosity in collecting for the Pike Market Food Bank and Senior Center. The spirit of giving is alive and well in 4th grade!
Prayer Partners: Last Friday all students should have come home with their Faith Family Prayer Partner name, directions, and cardstock to make a special card for their prayer partner. All cards should be brought to school no later than next Monday, December 16th. We will exchange them at our final Faith Family meeting next week on December 20th. If students will not be at school on Friday, December 20th, they are still expected to make a card and turn it in before they leave. Make sure the cards are neatly and thoughtfully completed and nicely decorated. All students should include their prayer partner in their daily prayers as well.
Reading: The Charlotte’s Web Quote Posters are due next Wednesday, December 18th. You can find all information about the quote poster here, including a PDF of the entire book. The students will also have a yellow study sheet for the Charlotte’s Web Vocabulary Test in their filer this week. This test is on Monday, Dec. 16th. We have been practicing at school, so they should know the words fairly well by now. The test is matching words with definitions.
Spelling: Lists for lesson 12 were sent home last Friday. This test will be on Friday as usual.
Math: We are wrapping up chapter 4 this week with a test on Friday. Students are working on communicating different strategies to solve multiplication problems. Please continue to practice multiplication facts at home with XtraMath or any other method that works for you! Also, please continue to check over your child’s math homework for accuracy to reinforce the habit of striving for accuracy. Thank you!
Social Studies: The Midwest State test has been been changed to Thursday, December 12th. We will be introducing the early explorers by sea to Washington State as we move into our Explorers unit.
Religion: We are continuing to work on the Corporal Works of Mercy by creating posters in small groups. The students will be tested on memorization of the 7 Works next Tuesday, December 17th. You can find information about the Corporal Works of Mercy here. There is not a spelling test next week, but students can get extra credit if they spell them all correctly. Students will be attending the sacrament of reconciliation next Thursday, December 19th.
Science: Wow! The Rube Goldberg Machines were a success! The students learned a lot about perseverance, creativity, and cooperation. You can see the videos here! We will continue to practice mechanical engineering as we move on to discuss sails next week. Students will make predictions about what kinds of sails will work best based on their properties. Then, we will build and test the sails to see if predictions were correct.
