Newsletter Week of November 9th

Dear 4B Families,

Happy Veterans Day Week! Just as a reminder, there is no school on Wednesday, November 11th in honor of Veterans Day. We will hold a class prayer service on Tuesday honoring the veterans the students wrote about on their flags. We are looking forward to this very special event. In order to be ready to share, your child should complete their Veterans Day Flag Project and turn it in to Seesaw no later than Monday morning. Thank you for assisting your child with this project.

We are asking that families drop off the projects at school during the next pickup days this week. The flags will be proudly displayed in the school. Some families like to give their flag to the veteran it honors. If this is the case, please let us know. We will get the flag back to you at the next pickup date.  Otherwise, I will add them to your child’s portfolio and they will come home at the end of the year.

Materials Pick-Up Days: This week is the next pick-up for student materials. Each 4th grade student will receive materials labeled for each subject area and other miscellaneous items. The pick-up days are Friday, November 13th, 12:00-4:00 and Saturday, November 14th, 9:00-12:00. Prior to pick-up day, please help your child organize their filer and materials. This includes removing completed papers that have been submitted and neatly putting them in the red “Completed Work” folder. We will also have time during class to organize. After receiving materials, please assist your child with carefully filing packets and organizing the new materials. Students should not take apart the papers yet. We will do that together in class. We would love to have some more student work hanging in our school! Please drop off your child’s…

1. Saint Report

2. Veteran’s Day Flag Project

3. Postcard from the Barn

4. Halloween Haiku

Thank you for your support!

Conferences: Or, as I like to call them, Celebrations of Learning will be held on Monday, November 23rd, Tuesday, November 24th, and Wednesday, November 25th. All conferences will be held on Zoom, and the schedule to sign up is now live! If you haven’t yet, please use this link to sign up as soon as possible. Just a reminder, all students are expected to attend their Celebration of Learning with their parents. They will be leading some of the discussion. I’m very much looking forward to these Celebrations!

Religion: We are finishing up the Saint Reports this week. I am looking forward to seeing the final reports when they are turned in at pick up this Friday or Saturday.  I am so proud of all the hard work the students have put into this project. The students will also do some work from our religion book related to saints, along with an open book test.

Spelling: There is not a spelling test this week.

untitledReading: This week, we will be reading chapters 8-10. Students are expected to be more independent as we choose high quality quotes and explore new vocabulary from each chapter. We are also working on reading fluently. This includes expression, smoothness, and accuracy. Reading fluency directly impacts comprehension. Finally, students are analyzing characters and choosing character traits based on evidence from the story.

Math: This week, we will wrap up chapter 3 and take the assessment. Next up…multi-digit multiplication! This chapter will have a large focus on understanding multiplication and solving for large products. It is very important that students continue their daily practice (in and out of class) of multiplication facts. Thank you for your continued support of regular fact practice at home.

Social Studies: Next Tuesday the 17th, the students will be tested on the combination of the NE and SE states.   They will have a study sheet and can also review with the online links provided on the webpage. This week the students will be introduced to the Plateau Native People of Washington State.

Science: After an exciting visit from Carie Curie (Marie Curie’s Great Granddaughter), students were energized as they created their own experiments testing their reaction times. This week, we will finish up our brain model projects by exploring the Peripheral Nervous System. Students will use yarn to simulate how messages travel through nerves as a result of sensory inputs and outputs.

Have a wonderful week, and Happy Veteran’s Day!

Ms. Benson
