The facts….Most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months.
Summer Math: Keep up those math skills. Students that bring in evidence of regular summer math practice to keep their skills sharp can visit me the first week of school for some special prizes and goodies for a job well done.
Take Part in Mrs. Heuer’s Summer Math Challenge using the packet Ms. Simpson sent home, and any of the sites below. You will receive copies of this in your report card, and you can also access information in the eFC.

Xtramath: It is so important you keep up your fact practice over the summer. You will need to come into 5th grade with automatic recall of your addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Five minutes of Xtramath a few times a week is strong recommended!
Mathletics: The world’s leading online math program that builds confidence through personalized learning, exciting games and mastery challenges.
Happy Numbers: You will have access to the Happy Numbers site all summer. Strive to complete at least 30- 45 minutes per week until during the summer. The practice on this site will help you build and retain your skills.
4th Grade Interactive Math Skill Builders (can also link to 5th grade or higher)
Academic Skill Builders is a research-based and standards-aligned free educational math games and language arts games website that will engage, motivate, and help students improve their academic skills. There are many interactive games to choose from and they’re all pretty fun, have decent graphics/sound effects, and offer great practice to specific skills
Multi-step story problems:Students will get used to reading for meaning, while also identifying key information. Encourage students to write out equations and draw pictures to explain their thinking, since this helps them see the light when they are stuck!
