Dear 4B Families,
I hope all of our wonderful 4th grade moms had a lovely Mother’s Day and that you were treated with lots of love! We have some warm days ahead. We will continue with our MAP testing this week in the area of math. There will be no math homework on Monday and Tuesday this week.
Talent Show Spirit Day
On Friday, May 16th, we will have a free dress day in honor of the talent show. This year’s theme is Summer at the Pier! Students dress for a summer day on the pier following the dress code: shorts, sundresses, tee shirts, flip flops/ slides ok, baseball hats ok. No short shorts or skirts, bathing suits, grass skirts.) We look forward to seeing all of the fun spirit as we watch the awesome talent show performances. On Tuesday the 13th, 4th graders will have their dress rehearsal for the talent show, be sure they bring costumes and any needed supplies.
Flat Stanley: The Flat Stanley Journals are due no later than Monday the 19th, but I would love any students that have their home entries completed to turn them in this Friday so I can get a start on grading. At home the students should have completed 3-4 well-composed final copy entries, with pictures. We will complete a final wrap-up entry at school and add some finishing touches on the journals.
Reading: Students read chapters 7-8 in The Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Our target comprehension skills are: mood, theme, summarizing. Students use the “Who? What? Where? When? Why? and How?” questions to retell main events from the chapter.
Spelling: This week’s words focus on prefixes dis-, im-, in-, non-, un-. This test will be Friday as usual.
Math: Along with MAP testing we will be working on our next chapter, decimals and fractions. We will be using place value to add and subtract decimal fractions, compare and order decimals and work on a problem solving investigation determining if there is extra or missing information.
Religion: The students will continue to work on their Beatitude booklets this week. We have been learning about ways we can “LIVE” the Beatitudes in our daily lives through our actions and interactions with classmates, family and friends.
Social Studies: The––Washington State Features takes place on May 29th. This test also has an online practice site students can use to review as well. Early Washington State. The students will be learning about Mother Joseph and her amazing contributions to the Northwest—including Washington’s first hospital, and the Denny Party.
Science: In the second lesson, students explore how energy can be stored as height. In the activity, Bumper Coasters (Part I), students build paper roller coasters. Students release marbles down the roller coaster track to understand height energy and energy transfer.
