Dear 4B Families,
Happy last week of May. I hope you all enjoyed the Memorial Day Holiday weekend. Field Day was great fun on Friday.
Language Arts: The students will be starting the last entry; choosing their top three favorite adventures and explaining why they chose those in detail. The students will also be sharing highlights of their journals with the class. We will also be typing out and putting together our personal quote project posters. Thank you for your assistance with the quotes.
Spelling: The spelling test this week is Wednesday, May 28th. Students have the lists in their filers Here is the list. The final spelling test will be Friday, June 6th. The list will be sent home this Friday the 30th.
Reading: Chapter 9 The Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. is a long one so we continue this week. and we will be finishing up the novel with final activities and assessments by June 6th. Our target comprehension skills are: summarizing and retelling. Students build comprehension through discussion techniques that center on using text evidence to support their inferences.
Math: On Tuesday June 2nd, we review our chapter on decimals. Tuesday HW is also a test review. Thank you for going over the HW with your children. We will take the chapter test on Wednesday June 3rd which will follow the same format as the Monday night HW. We will then move into a mixed review of basic math concepts; adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, etc.
Social Studies: –Washington State Features takes place this Thursday, May 29th. This test also has an online practice site students can use to review as well. The students will have a word bank for the test. As we wrap up the school year with 5 more SS/Science days, we will be learning about early Seattle history. Lots of crazy facts about the early years of our state.
Science: The last lesson focuses on students exploring how a city’s electricity is derived from natural resources such as coal, sunlight, wind, and water. They investigate how using these different energy sources affects the environment. In the activity, Power this Town, students obtain and combine information about different types of renewable energy, and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each energy source. The Unit 4 test will take place on June 9th. In class we will be filling out a study guide and using Kahoot to help with understanding concepts and studying.
Religion: Students finish up booklets and review the 8 Beatitudes. We will take an open-book test on the chapter the following week.
Be on the lookout for an email we will send out on Tuesday, the 27th regarding summer reading, math and writing information/opportunities for the 4th grade students.
