Hello 4B Families,

  In Thanksgiving reflection, I am so grateful for all of the kind support I receive from all of you! I’m also thankful for the amazing 4th grade students that I have the pleasure of teaching everyday! I am excited for our upcoming conferences next week!  Last Friday we met with our Faith Families to make thank you cards for the Holy Rosary Tree Lot that will open the day after Thanksgiving!

Conferences: Students are busy preparing for conferences next week. Your child will be leading us in prayer, sharing some of their work, and discussing goals for the 2nd trimester. Just to be clear, all students will be attending their conference.  I look forward to meeting with you all as we discuss your child’s progress and goals. 

We are keeping the newsletter brief this week.  Just the basics.  A good chunk of our time will revolve around conference preparations and completing projects.  

Spelling: The spelling test is on Wednesday this week! The pattern is long “o” sounds spelled o, oa and ow.

Math: The chapter 3 math test will take place this Tuesday.  Monday homework will be a test review.  We will also do a full review in class to help the students prepare.  Keep up on those math facts!  Many students are making great strides.  Any chance you have over the Thanksgiving break to work on flash cards or Xtramath is encouraged. 

Science: This week we will be starting Unit 2: Waves of Sound. In this unit, students investigate the science of sound. Students construct physical devices to feel the vibrations that allow us to communicate across distances. Students also use digital devices to visualize the characteristics of different sound waves that cause us to hear different things. 

Social Studies:   The combination NE/SE test will be shared at your child’s conference.  The next set of states we are learning are the Midwest States.  The test will be December 11th. New study sheets will come home on Thursday.  We will continue with our work on our Washington State symbols this week.  After the break we will start our journey with the early explorers by sea to the NW Coast. 

Just a reminder that it is important for your child to wear tennis shoes on their P.E. days. As they will not be able to participate in class if they come in crocs, heeled shoes, etc.  Also, the weather changes quickly.  Students should come to school with a coat/rain jacket most days—with a hood if possible. Thank you!

Below you will see a reminder of the Thanksgiving donations we are collecting as a school below.  Thank you so much for your generosity. You can drop off donations in the main hall this week as well as next week when you come for your conference.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

Thank you so much for sending in donations for our all-school food drive for St. Vincent DePaul in West Seattle. We are encouraging students to find ways to earn money to purchase items to donate themselves. Please help your child with this…think chores around the house or yard, safely helping out neighbors with raking or other tasks, etc. We appreciate your support, and we are excited to continue our tradition of giving!  We would love every student to bring in a few items this week if possible. 

1) St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive– Support those in our West Seattle community facing food instability. Items most in need include:
