The 4th grade students are very busy with their saint reports and preparations for the upcoming Masses. More detailed information on this topic is below.
Wednesday, October 29th is the All Saints’ Day Mass. Your child will wear their saint costume to school that day. If you need ideas for a costume, you can look here. Last Thursday week the students that will have reading/singing parts were assigned. Thank you for practicing with your children–having them read slowly and clearly so that they can be understood on the microphone. We will have our first practices in the church later this week.
We are getting close to 100% class participation. Our class will earn a sweet treat for reaching this goal, so please help us reach it!

Spelling: Spelling words for the week are in your child’s filer. The words this week all contain vowel sounds /yoo/, /oo/
Reading: This week we will begin chapter 2, we’re making great progress with Charlotte’s Web, and we are getting to know the unique and charming traits of the characters. The students are really enjoying partner-reading the chapters, bringing the story to life with expressive voices and personality as they read aloud. In addition, we’re focusing on crafting thoughtful and detailed responses to comprehension questions, helping to deepen their understanding of the text. It’s exciting to see their growing engagement and enthusiasm!
Math: This week we start Chapter 3, which is a deep dive into understanding multiplication and division. There are many important foundational concepts that are taught in this chapter that help prepare students for the upcoming objectives. These concepts can be challenging for fourth graders! Please make sure your child is practicing their multiplication facts at least 3x per week for 10 minutes. Flash or playing cards to multiply can be a fun and effective supplement to XtraMath.
Science: We will be continuing the sedimentary rock lesson this week. In the lesson, students gather evidence to describe how environments on Earth have changed over time. Students explore how the process of sedimentary rock formation preserves a record of those past environments. In the activity, Canyon Explorer, students observe fossils found within a model canyon. The characteristics of those fossils provide evidence to support the explanation that the landscape has changed numerous times.
Social Studies: The NE State test will take place this Friday the 24th. Last Friday I gave each student extra practice sheets to quiz themselves for the test. Extra practice and links for online reviews can also be accessed on the 4A webpage. Our classwork is focusing on the Coastal and Plateau people of Washington State. Students will be able to compare and contrast these groups as they learn about the physical features of our state.
