Newsletter for the week of May 28-31

Dear 4B Families,

Happy last week of May.  I hope you all enjoyed the Memorial Day Holiday weekend. Field Day was great fun on Friday. I have included a few more pictures at the bottom of the page.  This Friday the HR students will have a special celebration to honor Fr. Oakland.

Language Arts: The students will be finishing up their final entry in their Flat Stanley journal and sharing highlights of their journals with the class.  We will also be typing out and putting together our personal quote project posters. Thank you for your assistance with the quotes.

Spelling: We will have a spelling test this Friday. The May 31st spelling words can be found here and were also passed out to the students last Wednesday.  The words on this test are all compound words.

Reading: Students finish up work on chapter 9 and read the last chapter, chapter 10 in The Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Our target comprehension skills are: summarizing and retelling. Students build comprehension through discussion techniques that center on using text evidence to support their inferences.

Math: We are continuing to work on decimals and comparing them with equivalent fractions. Thank you for going over the HW with your children. The Ch. 10 math test will be on June 4th. The students will receive a homework review sheet on the 3rd.

Science: The last lesson in this unit focuses on different types of energy. Students analyze the advantages and disadvantages of different sources of energy, including burnable fuels and alternative (renewable) energies. In the activity, Power this Town, students obtain and combine information about wind energy, solar energy, and water energy. They use this information to determine the best alternative energy sources for a town called Boulderville.

Social Studies:. The Washington State feature test will take place this Thursday the 30th.  Last Thursday I sent home another study sheet for the students to use to practice, with the word list.

Religion: Students are continuing to work on the Beatitude booklets.  We will also review in the religion book and prepare for a final test the week of the 3rd.

Here’s to a great week ahead!  Thank you for helping keep your children organized and focused these last weeks of school.
