Dear 4B Families,
What an outstanding job the students did presenting their Oral Biography projects. I am so proud of the creativity, heart and hard work the students put into their presentations. The students spoke with such incredible expression, poise and knowledge. Thank you families for all the time you spent at home supporting your children as well. Bravo!
MAP testing will begin this week.
We will begin with the math portion of the test on Monday and Tuesday this week. Next week reading, and the week of the 20th writing. As the weather gets warmer please remember to send your child with a water bottle so they can keep hydrated. Be sure the students are getting good sleep and bringing a healthy snack! Thank you,
End of Year Field Trip!
The 4th graders will celebrate a fantastic year with an end of the year celebration/field trip to Alki Beach on Wednesday June 12th (where the Denny Party landed!) Please consider volunteering to be a driver/chaperone for this event. We will leave school about 10:30 and be back at school no later than 1:45. The students will eat lunch and play at the beach to celebrate a wonderful 4th grade year. Look for a blue permission slip in your child’s filer. These need to be returned no later than May 9th. If you plan to drive, please update/check your Virtus account.
Flat Stanley: Most of the students completed their Flat Stanley at School entries last week, but a few need more time. For now they should focus on their 3-4 at home entries. Since I will be taking my two personal days on the 13th and 14th to move to my new apartment I will be extending the due date until the 15th when I return.
Reading: Students finish up some chapter 6 work and begin chapter 7 in The Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. We use targeted discussion questions to allow for opportunities for the children to reflect on story elements, make inferences and develop critical thinking as they consider the opinions and ideas of others.
Math: Math MAP testing on Monday and Tuesday. We will be wrapping up our chapter on operations with a plan for a test on May 14th. Our next chapter focuses on fractions and decimals. Students will learn the relationship between decimals and fractions.
Spelling: Spelling words were passed out last Friday. This week’s words are all contractions. Students should also know how to say the word without the apostrophe.
Social Studies: On Friday study sheet for the final SS Map test of the year––Washington State Features. They will have a word bank for this test which will take place on May 30th. This test also has an online practice site students can use to review as well. Early Washington State (especially Seattle) is our area of focus during our class lessons.
Science: In this lesson, Energy Transfer and Engineering, students will explore how high the hills of a roller coaster can be. In the activity, Bumper Coasters (Part II), students add hills to the Bumper Coaster they built in Lesson 2 and experiment to build a deeper
Religion: The students will continue to work on their Beatitude booklets this week. We have been learning about ways we can “LIVE” the Beatitudes in our daily lives through our actions and interactions with classmates, family and friends. year. Our Second Step lessons are focusing on Emotion Management skills.
