Dear 4B Families,
I hope all of our wonderful 4th grade moms had a lovely Mother’s Day and that you were treated with lots of love! We have some warm days ahead. It is helpful if the students have water bottles to keep hydrated. We will continue with our MAP testing this week in the area of reading.
Band Concerts
On Monday this week the 4th grade students will enjoy a special band recruitment concert from the Holy Rosary Band and Francis McCamey the band director. The students will learn about the instruments and their options for band next year. No decisions about joining band need to be made until next fall, when they will have another chance to learn about their instrument choices and sign up for the band program.
Talent Show Spirit Day
On Friday, May 17th, we will have a free dress day in honor of the talent show. The Leadership Elective hopes everyone comes dressed for the Holy Rosary Rodeo Talent Show on May 17. Find those cowboy hats and kick up those boots… see you May 17 for the rodeo!
Flat Stanley: The Flat Stanley Journals are due by Wednesday this week. At home the students should have completed 3-4 well-composed final copy entries, with pictures. We will complete a final entry at school and the finishing touches on the journals prior to having them graded.
Reading: Students read chapter 8 in The Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Our target comprehension skills are: mood, theme, summarizing. Students use the “Who? What? Where? When? Why? and How?” questions to retell main events from the chapter.
Spelling: This week’s words focus on the suffixes -ful and -less. This test will be Friday as usual.
Math: The Ch. 9 math test will be on Tuesday the 14th for 4B and Wednesday the 15th for 4A. We will be starting Ch. 10 next week. Ch. 10 focuses on decimals. We will be using place value to add and subtract decimal fractions, compare and order decimals and work on a problem solving investigation determining if there is extra or missing information.
Religion: The students will be starting their Beatitude booklets this week. We will be learning about ways we can “LIVE” the Beatitudes in our daily lives through our actions and interactions with classmates, family and friends.
Social Studies: The––Washington State Features takes place on May 30th. This test also has an online practice site students can use to review as well. Early Washington State (especially Seattle) is our area of focus during our class lessons. In class we are learning about the early history of Washington with a focus on the Seattle area. Lots of interesting and crazy history!
Hard to believe we are in the last five weeks of the school year! Thank you for continuing to help keep your children attentive and focused as we still have so much important learning ahead! Have a wonderful week everyone.
Science: In the third lesson, students construct an explanation of how energy is stored, released, and transferred in chain reactions, such as falling dominoes. In the activity, Build a Chain Reaction (Part I), students are presented with an engineering design challenge to create their own chain reaction machine–a project they will continue in Lesson 5. Students experiment with a “Chain-Reaction Starter Kit.” This kit includes a lever and a ramp, which serve as the first two steps of a chain-reaction machine.
